Hayden Lake Aerie 4080 had developed a financial aid program.

The program is presented in the name of Glen and Ginger Abbott

and is available to anyone in Kootenia County related to a member

of the Eagles or through the Director or Dean of the institution

to be attended.

Guidelines for the Glen and Ginger Abbott Memorial Scholarship Fund


1. Recipients will be selected from vocational training schools, alternative high schools

and three school districts in Kootenai County and may be an existing institutional enrollee.

2.  The student selected for GGAMFS must be related in some way with a Hayden

Lake 4080 member.

3.  The candidate must provide a transcript; an essay describing personal motivation;

career objectives; and ability to handle adversity and authority.

4.  The candidate must provide at least three references, Some of which should speak

to the areas described above i.e. personal motivation, ability to handle adversity and

authority and interpersonal relationships. The references should provide insight into

the character of the candidate, be work related if possible and speak to academic


5.  The Candidate must provide a statement of need.

The award will be presented in a form of a check in the name of the candidate to the

 institution the candidate will be attending.

If some unforeseen issue arises preventing attendance, the scholarship fund

will be reimbursed for the unused portion.

The Candidate will be selected without regard for gender, race or creed.

The presentation will be made at a dinner given by the Eagles facility prior to

the commencement of the term.

If the scholarship recipient cannot attend the dinner, they must attend a joint

meeting of the Aerie/Auxiliary to obtain the award.

Parameters For Evaluation


Transcripts:                                                                                                   For the purpose of award a transcript will

                                                                                                                       demonstrate that the candidate can:

                                                                                                                       Complete work in a timely fashion,

                                                                                                                       Understand instructions, Can do what is

                                                                                                                        required when it is required.


Motivation:                                                                                                     How strongly the candidate feels regarding

                                                                                                                         the chosen career field and how important

                                                                                                                         a higher level of achievement is to succeed

                                                                                                                         in the field chosen.


Career Objectives:                                                                                          What is the level of interest in the chosen field

                                                                                                                         and why?


Adversity :                                                                                                       How well does the candidate handle the situation

                                                                                                                          when things don't go as well as they would like.


Authority:                                                                                                        How does the candidate respect authority and why?


Statement Of Need:                                                                                         What problems do you have in regards to funding

                                                                                                                          your objective and what deficiencies are you



 Section Process:                                                                                              A board consisting of five members in good standing

                                                                                                                          of the Aerie 4080 will be responsible for selecting

                                                                                                                          the interviewees for financial awards.


Release Statement:                                                                                          The candidate will provide a release statement

                                                                                                                          giving the Board  Authorization to contact the

                                                                                                                          references listed.


Scoring:                                                                                                           Will be on a 100 point scale:

                                                                                                                         15% will be the weight of the transcriptions
                                                                                                                        35% will be the weight of the references
                                                                                                                        50% will come from the aggregate of the students
                                                                                                                        statement of motivation, career objectives, how they
                                                                                                                        handle adversity and authority and their
                                                                                                                        statement of need.
